At school, children are faced with many new demands, such as sitting for longer periods at a desk, reading and writing. They can start to become ‘fixed’ and develop a tendency to slump, as well as using too much effort by trying hard to perform tasks such as holding a pen.
The Alexander Technique is NOT yoga or meditating, but learning about having a relaxed, happy back. It is also really fun!

If a child can maintain their natural ‘use’, they will be better equipped to respond to situations in a calm and clear manner as well as engaging the correct amount of muscular effort in whatever activity they are doing. This will hopefully prevent future problems like back pain, from occurring.
Cathie has taught children of all ages from 5 years upwards both in groups and individual lessons. She uses different games and activities to make lessons fun and informative for the children and her friend Alfie the skeleton also likes to join in from time to time to teach some anatomy!
Cathie is an extremely experienced and knowledgeable AT teacher. Such is Cathie’s versatility with teaching AT, she helped my daughter apply it to both her instrument playing (piano, violin and clarinet) and also her gymnastics. She had a lovely, personable manner with my 12-year-old daughter who couldn’t wait for her AT lessons each week! I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Cathie as an AT teacher.
